Shooting has wrapped up on the live action Fullmetal Alchemist film, and a 30 second teaser trailer has been released.
The Fullmetal Alchemist manga series became wildly popular in the 2000’s, selling over 64 million copies to date. The story was translated to two animated series and OVAs. The story takes place in a continental-European inspired land called Amestris. In this world, a powerful force called Alchemy governs the physical laws of matter and energy. The first rule, to obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is the rule of equivalent exchange.
Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric were maimed in an alchemical experiment gone wrong, and now they search for the Philosopher’s Stone to return them back to normal.
Fumihiko Sori is adapting the source material to the big screen. He wants to stay true to the material in a faithful way. Sori had this to say, “”I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country.”
The film is expected to release in Japan for winter 2017.
