Ransomware and Carleton University

Zachery McGibbon

Earlier on today, Carleton University was hit with a ransomware attack where hackers were able to get into student’s software and block them from accessing through a pay wall. That means students had to the pay the hackers a set amount of cash in order to retrieve access back to their software or in some cases the entirety of their computer! Now here is the biggest question I have to ask… why go after college/university students? I mean come on, they are already trying to get by on as much cash as they can, you really think that is the best target? I think hackers should use their brains a little bit more and realize University students probably aren’t the way to go to try and get a big pay day.
