The Strumbellas have been pretty quiet these past few years. They haven’t put out any new music since their 2016 album ‘Hope’. Until this weekend! This Friday they released a new single called ‘Salvation’.
Salvation seemingly came out of left field. Not much new music comes out this time of year. Getting into the actual song, it’s a really uplifting tune. The lyrics are based around an optimistic look into the future. Musically, it has an infectious thumping drum that is hard to resist tapping your foot to. It sticks to the similar vocal formula that The Strumbellas likes to use; having all members of the group sing parts of the song for a full chorus sound. It’s been done a lot in their music, but it works. The problem with Salvation isn’t about the song, but more so that it’s going to get compared to ‘Spirits’. Salvation is a fun solid tune that’s easy to sing along to. However, the biggest criticism it’ll face is “It’s good, but it’s not as good as Spirits”. That’s going to be a recurring theme throughout their whole career, not just with Salvation. Maybe Spirits was too big for their own good? That point aside, Salvation is still one of their stronger songs.
Overall, I’m giving the song an 8 out of 10
