
The Senators saved their best effort offensively for their final game of the season with a thrilling 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Over Time.
Through out the first period, the goalies were brilliant with Filip Gustavsson for Ottawa and Frederik Andersen for Toronto. This was Andersen’s first game since March 19th in a loss to the Calgary Flames. The Senators tallied their first goal of the game with 64 seconds left to go in the opening frame when Nikita Zaitsev fired a bullet past Andersen for his fourth of the season.
Connor Brown scored his team leading 21st goal of the season and it was short-handed and Kelly Parker scored his first NHL goal.
As for the Leafs, Jumbo Joe Thornton, John Tavares and Auston Matthews got the goals for Toronto. Thornton’s goal came on the powerplay of the second period and Matthews’ goal was not only game tying goal, but it was also his league leading 41st goal of this season.
Ottawa closed the scoring when Josh Norris scored on a nice feed from Brady Tkachuk nine seconds into the overtime to cap off the season for the Senators.
Josh Norris was named the game’s first star for the game winning OT goal for the Sens. Auston Matthews who is having a career year garnered the second star of the game for the game tying marker and Kelly Parker who put home his first NHL goal was named the game’s third star.
