Matt Murray made 23 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Ottawa Senators blanked the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 at the Bell Centre Saturday night.
Drake Batherson scored twice in the game and added a helper as well. The only other goal scorers for Ottawa were Nikita Zaitsev who registered an empty net goal and Artem Zub who recorded a goal on the first shot of the game. Also, Shane Pinto made his NHL debut and he assisted on the last goal of the game.
The result was the Senators’ first shutout since March 26, 2019 when the Ottawa Senators blanked the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 when Craig Anderson did the work in net.
Murray who registered his first shutout since October 26, 2019 when he was still in Pittsburgh was named the game’s first star, Batherson who tallied in two goals was given the second star and Pinto who had an impressive debut with one assist was rewarded the third star.
Ottawa’s next game is Monday when they visit Scotiabank Saddledome to take on the Calgary Flames.
