The New York Rangers were fined $250,000 by the NHL on Thursday following comments the organization made about George Parros, the director of the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.
Commissioner Gary Bettman called those comments unacceptable and no place in our game. The punishment came after the League charged Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson for roughing up on Ranger forward Pavel Buchnevich in a 6-3 Capitals win on Monday. Star forward Artemi Panarin sustained a season ending lower body injury in the fight with Wilson.
The Blueshirts disagreed with the NHL’s decision and wanted the League to suspend the Capitals forward. They also questioned Parros’ decision to do his job.
New York has been eliminated from playoff contention earlier this week and will wrap up the season with a Saturday matinee game against the Boston Bruins.
