A local Ottawa band called Wild Remedy is an original folk band who you really need to check out! They mostly play covers, but they do have a couple of original songs as well. This Friday they are having a show in Montreal you don’t want to miss. The gig will be at Ursa Mtl in Montreal, Quebec. Doors open at 7pm and the show is at 8pm on November 17th. They will be playing with Jojo Worthington, a local Montreal pop singer. Tickets 15 dollars to enter at the door and 10 to buy it in advance.
The band is formed from a trio of three Ottawa women; Amy, Colleen, and Shay who became a band in the summer of 2022. Their main motivation is to have fun while making music as friends. They decided to work together due to their love of music and chilling harmonies. All three are vocalists for the band however the lead vocalist is Amy who has hobbies such as pottery and baking. Their other vocalist is Collen whose hobby is playing video games. The percussion of the band is Shaylah whose hobbies include cooking, and crafting. Their band influences many by being very open about how they don’t have professional training in instruments that they hope inspire other people that didn’t grow up learning a musical instrument to pursue a passion in music as well.
They have two original songs. One called “What I Did Find” released June 2023, and the second one called “Wild Remedy” released September 2023. The first song has a pop folk vibe and is labeled as a pop song in Apple music. The best mood to listen to this song would be when you need a mood booster during a stressful moment. This song will make you feel like you can go through anything and find something good on the other side of hardship. Their second song, labeled as an alternative folk song on Apple music, fits what I would also call this song. The best mood to hear this song, in my opinion, would be if you felt broken in a day. This song will lift you up and help you have a good cathartic release. All together their vibes are very uplifting from dark moments of life and would be a great band to keep an eye out for if you need these songs in your life.
If the band and their music sound fun and interesting to you, you should go to the show. My recommended time for leaving would be around 1 to 3 pm on Friday as it is anywhere from 2 and a half hours to almost 4 to get there due to fluctuating traffic. The trip for a mid-size vehicle will cost about 80 dollars for gas both ways. Staying hydrated and having a designated driver or booking one of the several nearby hotels or bed and breakfasts that are around a hundred for a night is a lovely price. Food and drinks have been served at the venue before at decent prices, so no worrying about having to get dinner before the show.
Ottawa is continuing to produce great musicians and you absolutely do not want to miss seeing the start of Wild Remedy. Grab some friends and head to Montreal for their show to have a great time!
